Hello!  Please take a look at my etsy shop, Dear Bitsy.  I crochet disturbingly adorable and adorably disturbing animals, including a human skull! The skulls are normally done on a custom order basis, so please send me a message on etsy if you are interested!

29th-Apr-2012 03:01 pm - Antique finish question
Tools of the trade
Hey, all---

A lot of the metal in the jewelry that I pick up, as well as the stuff I make, has an antique finish to it. I love the way it looks but it seems to always end up marking my skin. Is there any kind of treatment that I could do to it to keep that from happening, or is it just something I'll have to deal with? I know for rings you can always just put a little clear nail polish on it, but that doesn't really seem viable for things like necklaces. Does anybody know anything that might help? Thanks either way!

13th-Feb-2012 10:59 pm - Modifying Trunk for Vending
TheZombified.com
I bought this trunk/footlocker last month with the intention of modifying it into immense awesomeness for vending- the goal being to have it end up being both functional (transporting my crap/stuff around) and aesthetically practical (displaying all the crap I've just transported), saving me a ton of time on set up as well as giving my booth a little more of a professional/unifying look.

Trunk. Plus Chim, for scale.
To avoid potential disaster, I've decided to ask you guys for some ideas/suggestions before I actually dive in. Here are some thoughts I currently have, in handy list format:

- My style's rather ooky spooky Halloweeny cartoony- I want to emphasize that
- Inside needs to be painted (paint/technique suggestions encouraged), or otherwise prettied up
- I need to attach a magnet board and something to hang necklaces on to the part on the left
- Need to put in 2 shelves (so 3 sections) on the right part...
- ...and rig displays on each shelf for comics, cards, and stickers+pocket mirrors
- Ideas for rigging lights for nightclub vending welcome as well
- Need to replace the hinges so the damn thing will open all the way
- No plans to do much to the outside- maybe a large sticker with my logo and website- but the outside won't be seen much during display

Any and all suggestions welcome! Thanks!
(I did my best to be as vague as I could re: the stuff I sell, while still including the info I felt was relevant to this project. If there's anything I should edit out, please let me know and I shall do so as soon as I can :)

2nd-Jan-2012 01:13 pm - Sam Plush from Trick R Treat
speak
A friend of mine asked if I could make a plushie of a character from the bad horror movie Trick R Treat. I watched the movie to get a better idea of the character (it was pretty bad) that he wanted plushified, Sam.  Even though the movie was bad I really did like the little Sam character. He was super cute + creepy, right up my alley. My friend wanted not one but two of these, one to keep and one to give as a gift.

Here is a view of one of them from both sides. I really liked that he had a little butt flap. :D

Hi guys! It's been a long, long time since I updated here- I've been very busy. Well, I recently graduated from art school (YEEEEEES) so now I have time to actually show my work.

Anyways, these are some of the newest additions to my Monsters Trapped in Resin series, plus a paper doll. Hope you like them!

I made these dolls for a Christmas doll giveaway... they're both hand stitched, have vintage button eyes, and yarn hair.

Printmaking has been a lot of fun to learn: reduction linocutting (left) and drypoint etching (right), have lots of potential. It's easy to get really graphic, hard-edged, striking prints with lino and conversely; really nice gloomy, glowering, murky effects with drypoint.

We've just started screenprinting and then we're on to gum transfer, I'll try to post on those too.
15th-Nov-2011 06:45 pm - Zombie Love
Hi everybody! I haven't been by here in ages so I thought I'd stop by and say hi and share one of my latest dolls with you. I was inspired to make these dolls after watching a scene from The Walking Dead...where a zombie was ripped in half while being pulled from a well. They're both completely hand stitched, 22 inches tall, and made of fabric and fiberfill. I used vintage buttons for their eyes and they have yarn hair.

12th-Oct-2011 10:07 pm - Time for decorations
Tools of the trade
I spent a lot of my time in the second half of September making Halloween decorations this year, mostly in the form of carving up foam pumpkins. (I’ve been wanting to for ages and finally decided to make sure it got done this year.) I found a couple of tutorials I liked and put my spin on three of them.

Right under here. )
